Winter Family Activities in Mammoth
Gondola rides are always a fun activity for the kids. You get beautiful views and a calming ride up the mountain. The Panorama Gondola requires tickets. Up to two kids (ages 12 and under) ride free per paying adult. Take a ride up Mammoth Mountain and experience the views, interpretive center, summit sign and Eleven53 Café by riding the Panorama Gondola. Call (800) MAMMOTH for more information.
For convenience, I prefer the Village Gondola because of its proximity to the Village Lodge and because it takes you right to the Canyon Lodge ski slopes. When Whitney was 3, I remember taking the Village Gondola many times since It is free and the kids love it!
Skiing or Snowboarding
Mammoth Mountain is a well known ski and snowboard destination, perfect for families. Bring your own gear or easily rent from the ski resort. LA Kings Ice at Mammoth Lakes

New at the Community Recreation Center is an Olympic sized ice skating rink. Public ice skating sessions are offered every day of the week with Friday and Saturday sessions running longer. For updated schedule details, check out lakingsicemammothlakes.com. Skate rentals are also available at the Community Recreation Center.
The Village at Mammoth is quaint and easy to navigate. Our favorite stores are the Trendy Tots for toys and games and the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory for sweets during our family trips to Mammoth.
Located in the Village Plaza, Woolly and instructors from the Mammoth Ski & Snowboard school have a dance party. Every Saturday, January 6-March 30, 2024. Depending on snowfall and weather conditions, adventure through the High Sierra on a snowmobile and take in the scenic sights. Reservations must be done 24-hours in advance and can be booked online at mammothmountain.com. Keep in mind the age and height requirements for this family activity. The minimum age for a tour passenger is 5 years old AND at least 42″ tall. The minimum age to drive a snowmobile is 16 years old with a driver’s license and a parent or guardian present.
After exploring the mountain, make sure to save some energy to experience the weekend après-ski party, located at the Canyon Lodge Sundeck. The lodge’s indoor/outdoor Lincoln Bar is open serving adult beverages during the event 2:00 PM–5:00 PM every Friday and Saturday during the Winter season. Admission is free.
Woolly’s Adventure Summit

If you do decide to visit Woolly’s Adventure Summit, be sure to be aware of the height requirements for some of the activities.
Tubers must be 42″ tall to ride. Same-day tickets are not available online but can be purchased on-site. Booking in advance is recommended.
Little ones that don’t meet the height requirement for tubing can still enjoy the fun at the Snow Play Area. Snow Play Area only tickets can also be purchased on-site from $20-25.
For the older kids or adults seeking more adventure, the mountain coaster is available for those taller than 54”. To ride tandem, companion passengers may also take part in the thrill if they are older than 3 and accompanied by a driver that is at least 16 and taller than 54”.
