Traveling To Bali with Kids– Part 1: Getting To Bali
LAX to Denpasar, Bali, Indonesia
We splurged on business class on Singapore Airlines to go to Bali since I personally enjoy a little luxury here and there, I mean who doesn’t? I wanted the extra space and privacy since I was still breastfeeding and with the flight times being quite long, we figured it would be nice to be extra comfortable.
We flew from LAX to Bali and had two layovers in Tokyo and Singapore with total travel time being over 24 hours. It wasn’t too bad for me and my husband but I definitely could tell the girls were over it towards the end of the second leg. The service on Singapore Airlines was so attentive and kind. The stewardesses were extra helpful with Whitney, assisting her with any of her needs.
When we finally arrived in Bali you could feel the warmth getting off the tarmac and the excitement brewing. We booked a driver a few weeks in advance through some Instagram searching. We were met with “our” driver and immediately taken to his car and on our way to the Four Seasons Resort at Sayan. Our driver was also our guide for the rest of our time in Bali. Sadly I wish I got who I really booked because apparently, I got the uncle of the guide that I thought I had arranged but was never notified of the fact until we got there (more on that later).
The drive was pretty terrible. My one and a half year old was going crazy crying, she hated being strapped down in her car seat and confined again, especially after the long flights. She just did not want to be on any mode of transportation so she screamed and cried for the hour and some that it took to get from the airport to our resort.
The streets are small, with tons of people, scooters and cars moving in disorderly yet organized fashion. The car we were in was a stick shift and the constant bumps were making me feel queasy. I felt so car sick.
Note: There were many moments of traffic during our trip which is why we also tried to group certain destinations together and avoid being in the car for as little time as possible.
