Napa Valley may be known for its wineries and fine dining, but it’s also an unexpectedly fun destination for families — especially if you love outdoor adventures, animals, bike rides, easy meals, and wineries where kids can run around.
This 4-day guide is based on our exact trip with two little kids and everything we wish we knew beforehand. It covers the most kid-friendly wineries, stroller-friendly routes, the best food stops, and the easiest way to structure your days so everyone has a great time.
If you’re planning a Napa weekend trip with kids or researching what to do in Napa with toddlers, this is the perfect starting point.
DAY 1 — ARRIVAL + CHECK-IN + CALISTOGA EVENING
Travel to Napa Valley
We flew from Burbank into Oakland, picked up our rental car, and drove straight into wine country. The flight was quick, but the afternoon traffic made the drive longer than expected, so I’d recommend arriving earlier in the day if you can. It makes the transition into Napa much smoother with kids.
The grounds at Solage are stunning — from the beautifully designed Solbar to the serene pool area, every corner of the property feels intentional and thoughtfully curated. It’s one of the most gorgeous, family-friendly resorts in Calistoga, with spaces that blend luxury, comfort, and that effortless Napa Valley charm.
Check Into Solage Auberge (Calistoga)
Solage is one of the most family-friendly luxury resorts in Napa Valley. With spacious casitas, thermal pools, complimentary bikes, and plenty of room for kids to roam, it’s an ideal home base for families.
Our first meal of the Napa trip was at Calistoga Depot — and it set the tone in the best way. Beautiful setting, incredible food, and such a unique spot to dine in Napa Valley.
Dinner at Calistoga Depot
1458 Lincoln Ave, Calistoga, CA 94515 (Closed Tues–Wed)
A historic 1868 train depot turned into a lively, multi-concept dining space.
Why families love it:
- Live music on Fridays
- Indoor + outdoor seating
- A variety of food stalls to choose from
- Relaxed, kid-friendly atmosphere
- Wine + cocktails for adults
DAY 2 — BREAKFAST + SAFARI WEST + LUNCH + WINERY
Breakfast Options in Calistoga
Beyond the convenience of breakfast at Solage (Solbar), Calistoga has several delicious morning options:
- Sam’s Social Club
Comforting breakfast dishes, pastries, and a cozy fire pit. Perfect for families who want a warm indoor/outdoor vibe.
- Calistoga Roastery
A local favorite serving breakfast burritos, omelets, baked goods, and strong coffee. Easy and affordable.
- Sam’s General Store
A charming spot with pastries, yogurt bowls, granola, and breakfast sandwiches. Also great for picking up snacks or picnic items.
These are the safari vehicles that take you through Safari West’s Sonoma Serengeti — an open-air adventure kids love. Just note: little ones must meet the height requirement to sit on the top tier and the driver does switch out those who sit there halfway through to let others have a chance.
10AM Safari West (3-Hour Experience)
3115 Porter Creek Rd, Santa Rosa, CA 95404
A must-do for kids and adults.
The adventure includes:
- A 2-hour open-air safari truck ride
- Encounters with giraffes, zebras, wildebeest & cheetahs
- A peaceful 1-hour walking tour through aviaries + habitats
Book a morning tour for cooler weather, calmer animals, and happier kids.
Lunch: Calistoga Inn Restaurant & Brewery

A beautiful, kid-friendly spot with:
- Outdoor riverside patio seating
- Plenty of shade
- Space for kids to explore

The gondola ride up to Sterling Vineyards gave us the most beautiful views of Napa Valley’s fall foliage — golden vineyards, rolling hills, and the kind of autumn color you only get in November.

- Sterling Vineyards
The gondola ride is the main attraction for kids. Once at the top, enjoy easy walking paths and beautiful hilltop views.
- Tres Sabores
Laid-back, outdoorsy, and extremely kid-friendly. Expect open lawns, friendly farm animals, shaded tables, and a relaxing environment.
Dinner Options in Calistoga (or Rutherford)
- Sushi Mambo (Calistoga)
Casual and fast, with lots of rolls, noodles, and rice dishes for kids.
- Sam’s Social Club (Calistoga)
Wood-fired entrées, hearty comfort dishes, and a warm fire pit make this a great family dinner spot.
- House of Better (Calistoga)
Southwestern-inspired bowls, quesadillas, enchiladas, and kid-friendly options. Lovely outdoor patio with lawn games.
- Rutherford Grill (Rutherford)
A Napa classic. Rotisserie chicken, ribs, salads, and hearty plates. Very family-friendly and consistently excellent.
DAY 3 — SANTA ROSA + SONOMA PLAZA + TRAIN TOWN

The Snoopy statues and Peanuts decor outside Snoopy’s Home Ice are adorable — a fun, kid-friendly photo spot before heading inside the iconic ice rink or Charles M. Schulz Museum.

Our room at the Andaz Napa was perfect for a family of four — two spacious king beds, modern design, and plenty of room, a great family-friendly hotel option right in the heart of downtown Napa.
Check into other accommodations. We chose to stay at the Andaz Napa because of their availability of two king beds and location. A modern, walkable hotel in the center of Downtown Napa. Close to Oxbow Public Market and lots of kid-friendly dining.
Dinner Options in Downtown Napa

Napa Valley’s bike rental shops in Downtown Napa and Yountville make it easy to start your ride on the Napa Valley Vine Trail — a paved path that stretches more than 12 miles through vineyards and scenic wine-country views. When choosing where to rent, think about your starting point, how far you want to go, and what you realistically want to see with kids in tow.
Bike Ride From Yountville (Parent Tip: Don’t Start Downtown)
After breakfast, drive 10–12 minutes to Yountville for a scenic bike ride.
We learned the hard way that starting in Downtown Napa means lots of stoplights and residential streets.
Why Yountville Is the Best Starting Point:
Instant vineyard views
Wide, smooth paths
Minimal traffic
Perfect for bike trailers
Napa Valley Bike Tours & Rentals
6800 Washington St, Yountville, CA 94599
Offers:

A slow, easy stretch of the Vine Trail is perfect with little riders.
Winery Stop #1: Laird Family Estate
5055 Solano Ave, Napa, CA 94558

Huge lawn
Outdoor seating
Relaxed atmosphere
Kids can run around
No charge for children
Adults can enjoy a peaceful tasting
Bouchon Bakery is always a must-stop in Yountville — and if you love macarons, definitely try whatever flavors they have that day. We lucked out with pumpkin spice and raspberry, the perfect treats to enjoy while taking in the beautiful fall foliage along the street.

Sandwiches, pastries, and macarons — always a hit.
- Napa Yard Beer Garden
Casual outdoor dining with spacious seating.

We visited Chandon in the late afternoon when the estate was quieter, and it was the perfect time for a slow, scenic tasting. For the best experience, plan your visit right at opening or later in the afternoon, when the winery is calm and the views are at their most serene.
Afternoon at Chandon
Plenty of space for kids to explore while adults enjoy sparkling wine.
Indoor + outdoor seating options make it easy.
Bonus: Our toddler napped during this tasting — enjoyed a charcuterie board and 5 sparkling wines.
