Our Family Vacation at the Windjammer Landing St. Lucia
The Windjammer Landing Lobby is beautifully decorated and was perfect to relax at after a long day of travel. The views from the lounge chairs on the beach made us excited for our family trip in St. Lucia.
- Accommodations at Windjammer Landing are reasonably priced, affordable and spacious for families.Β Β You can get a 2-,3-,4-bedroom villa at a very reasonable price. Of course the resort also offers guest room options and the higher end brand new waterfront villas called the Residences.Β Β
- Windjammer Landing offers an all-inclusive plan (If you are not on an all-inclusive plan, food and drinks at the resort can get very costly).Β Β Most of the menu items, alcoholic/nonalcoholic drinks, ice cream shack were included in the all-inclusive plan.Β Β
- Windjammer Landing boasted a prime beachfront location.
- The excursions department was helpful in booking activities.
- Resort offered private airport transfer (extra charge).
- Most accommodations offered beautiful views of the resort and Labrelotte Bay.
- Shuttles within the resort operated 24 hours every day.
- Slide, large floating devices and trampoline were free to use in the ocean.
- Gym was open 24 hours a day and had nice equipment including two Peloton bikes.Β
The gym at the Windjammer Landing had all the equipment I needed and was spacious and empty.
The Hilltop Three Bedroom Villa was three levels. The first level down the stairs from the entrance was the living area with kitchen, the next level down was a bedroom with a king bed. The next level below had two bedrooms, the primary with a king-sized bed and two-twins in the other. Every bedroom had its own bathroom. Both lower level rooms had direct access to the private terrace with pool.
- Staff isnβt all around friendly. At times we would ask for things and wouldnβt be met with a response or if there was a response, it was a scoff.Β Β The service also was mostly slow.
- Wait times for the shuttle can be long.Β Β We waited as long as 35 minutes for a shuttle to pick us up from breakfast.Β Β
- Steep hills and lots of steps throughout some guest villas and resort (because of this, it could be more dangerous for young children and also difficult to navigate with a stroller).
- Kids Club was a bit bare, the quality of activities offered were subpar.Β Β
- Guest rooms and villas are not well kept. To name a few mishaps, there were stains in the bathroom grout, two shower doors out of our three showers needed maintenance, one broken hair dryer for three bathrooms, missing irons.
- Food quality was not up to par.Β Β Mediocre at best.Β Β There also seemed to be an issue with expediting at the restaurants.Β Β Almost all of our meals in the restaurants came lukewarm or cold.Β Β
- Wait times for our food to arrive were also painfully long.Β Β Our dinners lasted approximately 2.5 hours long each time because of the slow service.Β Β
- Lounge chairs on the beach were all booked up way in advance.Β Β Luckily there was a 10am rule, meaning anything without personal items left on any of the chairs meant they were up for grabs.Β
- The line for the towel hut/lounge chairs could get long.Β Β The staff also gave us a hard time getting excursion towels wanting to see proof of our scheduled excursion.Β Β
- The childrenβs beach toy chest was always empty if you didnβt go first thing in the morning.Β Β Another reason why I thought Windjammer Landing was not so kid-friendly was because there were never any beach toys available for the kids.Β Β Nor was there ever any beach toys to easily purchase at the beach.Β Β
- Housekeeping wasnβt the best with replenishing towels, especially when our villa had a pool, there were no extra towels to dry off from the pool so we would always have to grab the ones in the bathrooms if there were any.
- Another inconvenience we experienced dealt with their supply chain.Β Β Windjammer Landing would run out of certain vegetables and even proteins at the restaurants as well as certain garnishes at the bar. Ice cream flavors were plentiful at the beginning of our trip but towards the last couple of days, there were only a few flavors left.Β Β
- The resort encouraged us to download and utilize the Windjammer Landing app but it was not very user friendly and was not helpful during our stay.Β Β We still needed to visit the concierge to get the kids club schedule and any other assistance booking anything at the resort.
- Most specialty restaurants needed to be booked ahead of time, especially Papa Donβs and Masala.Β Β
- Breakfast buffet at Dragonfly had long wait times to be seated in the mornings, especially for larger groups.
Dragonfly boasted elegant views and was where we had our buffet breakfasts in the morning. In the evening, we also enjoyed dinner here twice during our vacation at Dragonfly Perch which did not require reservations. The Windjammer Landing Kidβs Club had a nice playground outdoors but with no shade. I much rather had the girls enjoy the beach with us and find some shade under a kidβs lounge chair.
The beach was one of our favorite times during our family vacation at the Windjammer Landing. There was an outside boat vendor that came ashore to sell fresh fruits and drinksβthe fresh coconut was delicious! It was also nice to enjoy our cocktails on the beach. My favorite cocktail at the Windjammer Landing bars was the Don Mango without the Grenadine but with two shots of Grey Goose (all part of the all-inclusive).
A compilation of what we ordered during our all-inclusive plan family trip at Windjammer Landing St. Lucia. Unlimited ice cream, alcoholic beverages, Beef Tenderloin from the Upper Deck, spicy hot dog from 96 Degrees in the Shade
The Windjammer Landing was set in a beautiful backdrop and offered no shortage of picturesque sunsets. Even though the adults we travelled with and I had troubles with service and food, the kids had a great family trip to St. Lucia.
Note:Β Β The Residences were the more costly accommodations at the Windjammer Landing, because they are relatively new and beach chic in decor.Β Β I canβt imagine spending the extra to stay in the Residences and receiving the food quality and level of service that we did.Β Β It definitely would be a huge discrepancy.Β Β If you are to spend a family holiday at the Windjammer Landing, I suggest doing your wallet a favor and just booking the Hilltop Villas or the guestrooms for the extra savings.Β Β
