Four Seasons Hotel New Orleans: An Honest Family Review

The best family hotel in New Orleans? We think so. Here's everything you need to know before you book.

We’ve stayed at a lot of hotels with our kids. Some are beautiful but exhausting to navigate with little ones. Some have the right amenities but wrong location. The Four Seasons New Orleans gets both right.

Here’s our full, honest review — the rooms, the perks, the dining, the location — everything a family with young kids needs to know before booking.
Location: As Good As It Gets in New Orleans
The Four Seasons New Orleans sits right on the Mississippi River at the foot of Canal Street. It is one of the best-positioned hotels in the city for families.
  • 2-minute walk to the Audubon Aquarium & Insectarium
  • 5-minute walk to the French Quarter
  • 12-minute walk to Jackson Square
  • 15-minute walk to the Louisiana Children’s Museum
You can leave the hotel, spend a few hours exploring, walk back for a break, and head out again. With young kids, that flexibility is everything.
Our Deluxe River View Room at the Four Seasons New Orleans was the perfect home base for the week — two double beds, warm and comfortable design, and stunning Mississippi River views right from the room.

The Rooms: Spacious, Comfortable, River Views
We stayed in a Deluxe River View Room with two double beds. It was the perfect size for our family of four.

The bathroom alone was worth it. Deep soaking tub. Wide double vanity. River views from inside the bathroom. The kind of bathroom you actually want to spend time in.

The beds are exceptional. Premium bedding, pillow menu, complete blackout curtains. Our kids slept deeply every night. So did we.

Room types worth knowing for families:
  • Deluxe River View — two double beds, spacious bathroom, river views. Our pick.
  • Connecting/Adjoining Rooms — available for families of up to six. Two rooms, shared door. Everyone gets their own space.
  • Suites — some feature separate sitting areas with pull-out sofas. Great for longer stays.
Ask about the in-room camping setup when you book. The hotel can arrange a kids’ teepee right in the room. A thoughtful play area that kids absolutely loved.
Every time we walked back into the Four Seasons New Orleans it hit us — that blast of cool air, the beautiful elevated lobby opening into the Chandelier Bar, and Mallory at the concierge desk ready with the best recommendations for family-friendly activities around the city.

Family Perks: More Than You'd Expect

This is where the Four Seasons New Orleans really earns it for families.

Free Game Library The concierge desk has a full library of board games, puzzles, and activities. All free to borrow for your stay. Our kids used it every single evening.

Family Movie Night Order popcorn from in-room dining, pick a movie. The movie charge is removed from your bill at checkout. Simple, free, and the kids looked forward to it every night.

Kids Eat Free (Under 5) Children 5 and under eat complimentary at Miss River, Chemin à la Mer, and the Chandelier Bar with the purchase of one adult meal. Ask your server — not all staff proactively mention this, so bring it up when you order.

Child-Size Robes The hotel provides little robes sized for kids. After pool time, our kids lived in them. A small detail that made a big impression.

Concierge: Our concierge Mallory was exceptional. She went out of her way to make sure our kids had activities and games throughout the stay. The kind of service you remember long after the trip.

The Four Seasons New Orleans delivers beyond the room — rooftop pool with sweeping city views at night, a fully equipped gym with Peloton bikes, and the Mississippi Riverwalk right outside the front door for an easy morning walk or evening stroll with the kids.

The Pool: Rooftop, River Views, Worth Every Minute

The outdoor pool and hot tub sit on the 5th floor with panoramic views of the Mississippi River and the city skyline.

Complimentary pool toys for kids. Lounge chairs for parents. A small kids’ area nearby with a chalkboard wall and books for when the little ones need a break from the water.

We ended every single day here. It was our decompression ritual — kids in the pool, adults in the hot tub with river views. It doesn’t get better than that after a full day of exploring New Orleans with kids.

Chemin à la Mer at the Four Seasons was our go-to every morning — quick, easy, and delicious. The weekend brunch buffet is worth lingering over before a full day of exploring New Orleans with the kids. Children 5 and under ate free with paying adult.

Dining: The Chandelier Bar and Beyond

Chandelier Bar The heart of the hotel. Beautiful lobby bar with natural light pouring in. The cocktails are outstanding — try their Sazerac, a classic New Orleans drink made right here.

Every Thursday evening from 6–9pm, the Chandelier Bar hosts live jazz. Just a pianist, very informal. We sat on the couches with the kids and had a completely relaxed hour before bedtime.

The food here is good too. The crispy chicken sandwich is excellent. Kids’ meals are available on request.

Chemin à la Mer The hotel’s main restaurant. Weekend breakfast buffet plus à la carte. We had breakfast here every morning — a great place to start the day and zero stress with the kids.

Miss River The more upscale restaurant option at the Four Seasons. Classic New Orleans dishes done beautifully.

In-Room Dining Reliable, well-executed, and delivered without fuss.

The Little Details That Stand Out

The Four Seasons is known for service. This property delivers on that in ways you feel without necessarily noticing.  When you arrive, the welcome is warm and genuine. The reception was kind and welcoming to the children as well.

What Families Should Know Before Booking
Ask about the in-room camping setup at check-in. Not automatically offered — you have to ask. Worth it for young kids.
Remind your server about kids eat free. The policy isn’t always offered proactively. Mention it when you order and it will be honored.
The rooftop pool has limited hours. Check with the front desk for pool hours on your specific travel dates.
Book a river view room.  The kids loved watching the steamboats from the floor to ceiling windows.  You can also spot the cruise ships from a distance.
Valet parking is available if you’re renting a car. Budget for it — parking in New Orleans near the French Quarter is expensive regardless of where you stay.
The little extras at the Four Seasons New Orleans made all the difference — complimentary in-room movie night with popcorn delivered to your room, fresh beignets at the weekend brunch buffet at Chemin à la Mer, and a quaint kids' room right by the rooftop pool for when the little ones need a break.

Is the Four Seasons New Orleans Worth It for Families?

Yes. The location alone makes it worth considering. Two minutes from the Aquarium, five minutes from the French Quarter — you can’t do better with young kids.

Add in the family perks — game library, movie night, kids eat free, the rooftop pool — and it becomes genuinely one of the most family-thoughtful luxury hotels we’ve ever stayed at.

The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The service is warm and real. And Mallory at the concierge desk will take care of everything else.

If you’re planning a family trip to New Orleans and want to stay somewhere that works as hard as you do to make the trip great — this is the one.
