I recently had the pleasure of experiencing the dining options aboard Holland America’s Koningsdam. This impressive ship offers a wide variety of dining venues that cater to all tastes and preferences, making it an excellent choice for family travel. Here’s an overview of the dining choices, highlighting which ones are more kid-friendly and which are better suited for a special night out.
Kid-Friendly Dining Options (Included)
Lido Market (Deck 9)
Lido Market is the go-to spot for families looking for a casual, quick meal. This buffet-style dining area offers a wide range of options, from fresh salads and sandwiches to international cuisine and kid favorites like pizza and pasta. They even have many dessert choices to appeal to kids and adults. The self-service style makes it easy for kids to pick and choose what they like, ensuring everyone finds something they enjoy. Service was also always fantastic.
The Lido Market was the dining choice that we frequented the most with the kids. It was just easy to find something to satisfy everyone. With plenty of proteins to choose from and made to order items, we always left with our bellies full.

Main Dining Room
The Main Dining Room is a great family-friendly option for those who want a more traditional dining experience. With a diverse menu that changes daily, there’s something for everyone, including a kids’ menu with familiar favorites. The elegant setting doesn’t detract from the welcoming atmosphere, making it a perfect place for families to enjoy a nice meal together. Be sure to make reservations or go early when the dining room opens up to avoid a wait.

Dive-In
Dive-In is another fantastic spot for families. Located near the pool, this fast-casual eatery serves up delicious burgers, hot dogs, and fries. The Dive-In sauce is a must-try! It’s perfect for a quick, satisfying meal in a laid-back atmosphere. It is take out, making it easy to enjoy your meal at the many tables by the windows or in your stateroom.

New York Deli & Pizza
For families craving a slice of New York-style pizza or a freshly made sandwich, New York Deli & Pizza is the place to be. It offers a variety of pizza toppings and sandwich fillings, making it a hit with both kids and adults. This option is also take out and can be easily enjoyed at a table nearby.
At the New York Deli & Pizza, you can get pizzas by the slice that are already ready or create your own personal sized pizza (which tasted far better). We got pizzas every day that we were there!

Specialty and Fancy Dining Options (extra charge)
Pinnacle Grill
For a more upscale dining experience, Pinnacle Grill is the ship’s premier steakhouse. The menu features premium cuts of beef and seafood, with an extensive wine list to complement your meal. This option was still very doable with the kids but not as fun for them as the other options.
For our fancier family dinner at Pinnacle Grill, I had to order a glass of bubbly!

Tamarind
Tamarind offers a sophisticated dining experience with a menu inspired by the culinary traditions of Southeast Asia, China, and Japan. The serene ambiance and beautifully presented dishes make it a wonderful choice for a special evening.
Canaletto
Canaletto is the ship’s Italian specialty restaurant, offering a cozy, family-style dining experience. The menu includes a variety of Italian classics, perfect for sharing. While it’s slightly more formal than the Lido Market, it’s still a great option for families looking to enjoy a nice meal together.
Bars and Lounges
Crow’s Nest
Crow’s Nest offers stunning panoramic views and a relaxed atmosphere, making it a perfect spot for a pre-dinner drink or a late-night cocktail. Board games can also be found here, a perfect laid back place to hang out with the family.
Billboard Onboard
For a more lively experience, Billboard Onboard features live piano music and Trivia nights, providing an entertaining atmosphere for the whole family.
Panorama Bar
Located on Deck 10 near the kids club, the Panorama Bar is a convenient spot for parents to grab a drink close by. Its location makes it easy to enjoy a refreshing beverage while the little ones have fun at Club HAL. The bar offers a variety of drinks and a relaxed setting, perfect for taking a quick break throughout the day. The service was outstanding here throughout the whole trip.
Cruises can be great family travel options because of its ease of dining and many kid-friendly options

On our last night, I decided to celebrate the memorable cruise we had with some Veuve Clicquot at the Panorama Bar. Our favorite bar of the trip with the best bartenders and staff! If you ever meet Joseph, Roberto or Lester, tell them I said hello!

Dutch Café
The Dutch Café is a charming spot that offers a delightful selection of coffees, pastries, and savory treats. It’s a great place to start your day with a delicious breakfast pastry and a freshly brewed coffee or to take a mid-afternoon break with the kids. For adults, the Dutch Café also serves up exquisite espresso martinis, making it a perfect spot for a quick pick-me-up or a relaxing moment while the kids are engaged in activities.
Don’t forget to stop by to get this delicious Bossche Bol, a chocolate covered cream puff. We enjoyed coming here in the afternoons for a snack and caffeine. If you enjoy Espresso Martinis, the Dutch Café makes a fantastic one
