Exploring Holland America’s Koningsdam: The Ultimate Family-Friendly Cruise Experience
1. Family-Friendly Pools: One of the best features of the Koningsdam is its family-friendly pool areas. The retractable roof ensures the pool can be enjoyed in any weather.
2. Club HAL: For kids aged 3-17, Club HAL offers supervised activities and entertainment. Younger children can participate in arts and crafts, storytelling, and themed parties, while teens can enjoy video games, sports competitions, and dance parties. This allows parents to have some downtime while knowing their children are having a blast in a safe environment.
Educational activities were available to kids just like this Junior Ranger Program. Upon completion of a Junior Ranger booklet at the Kid’s Club, kids were given these souvenir Glacier Bay Junior Ranger pins.
3. Culinary Delights: Dining aboard the Koningsdam is a treat for the whole family. The ship boasts multiple dining venues, including the casual Lido Market, where you can find a variety of cuisines to suit every palate. For a more formal dining experience, the Main Dining Room offers a diverse menu that changes daily. Specialty restaurants like Pinnacle Grill and Canaletto provide unique dining experiences, perfect for a special family dinner.
4. Entertainment and Activities: The Koningsdam offers a wide range of entertainment options, from Broadway-style shows at the World Stage to live music at B.B. King’s. Families can also enjoy movies at the outdoor screen or participate in various onboard activities like bingo, Deal or No Deal, trivia games, and more.
Grab some popcorn and catch family friendly Alaskan themed movies on the outdoor screen at the pool or play some pickle ball or basketball while you get some fresh air.
The Crow’s Nest is located at the front of the ship and is a great place to go hang out with the family. There’s a wall of board games, the Explorations Cafe and a full bar.
It was always nice to come back to the room after dinner and see our beds prepared and these cute towel animals made by the staff.
1. Balcony Staterooms: Verandah Staterooms are a popular choice for families, offering ample space and private balconies. These rooms typically feature a queen-sized bed (convertible to two twins) and additional sleeping arrangements such as a pull-out sofa bed or an overhead Pullman bed. The balcony provides a private outdoor space where families can enjoy the stunning Alaskan scenery in comfort. This feature was ideal since there is so much to see during days of scenic sailing.
2. Family Oceanview Staterooms: For larger families, the Family Oceanview Staterooms are ideal. These rooms come with a queen-sized bed, a sofa bed, and an additional upper Pullman bed, comfortably accommodating up to five guests. The extra space and storage options make it easier to keep the room organized, even with multiple family members.
3. Suites: For families seeking more luxury and space, the suites on the Koningsdam offer enhanced comfort and additional amenities. The Vista Suites, Signature Suites, and Neptune Suites provide larger living areas, expansive balconies, and upgraded amenities. Families staying in suites also benefit from access to the Neptune Lounge, a private concierge service, and priority boarding and dining reservations.
4. Inside Staterooms: For budget-conscious families, Inside Staterooms provide a cozy and cost-effective option. These rooms feature comfortable sleeping arrangements with the same high-quality beds found in other staterooms. Some inside rooms also come with additional Pullman beds, making them suitable for small families.
This is a balcony stateroom on the 6th floor in the middle of the Koningsdam, very spacious for our family of four. The pull out sofa was made at turn down service every day for our daughter. The bathroom only had a shower but plenty of counter and shelf space for toiletries.
