Everything to know about the Bippidi Bobbidi Boutique Magical Makeover

With so many Disney costumes to choose from, the whole experience from shopping to the royal transformation is nothing but memorable.  

Disneyland Park offers THE royal makeover of your dreams at the Bippidi Bobbidi Boutique.  Sorry adults, this experience is only available for children 3-12 years old.  

This Disney experience is the perfect gift, celebration or just a special add on to any child’s Disney day.  

Tip: Be sure to book ahead of time as reservations open up 60 days in advance of your scheduled visit. If you can’t find any, you can keep checking up to the visit day for any cancellations. If you still have no luck, you might be able to ask in person if there are any available that day.

This magical makeover does come at an extra charge depending on the package that you choose. With a variety of choices, you can choose from the lavish Princess Signature Dress Collection Package or even the Deluxe Knight Package. All packages include hairstyles, makeup and accessories (depending on which package you choose).

My daughter LOVED the royal treatment she received. We booked this experience for her with an early afternoon time as a birthday surprise. Do remember that if you want the specialty photos, the reservation time would need to be before 4pm

Upon checking in at the back of the Sleeping Beauty Castle, we were told that we would soon be taken “shopping” at the Enchanted Chamber.  This is where the children pick the dress/outfit they like, along with any accessories and hairstyle.  My daughter picked an Elsa dress and a certain hairstyle that looked like a tight bun with a mini tiara.  Given what she chose, we went with the Castle Package which includes:  the choice of Disney princess costume, hairstyling, makeup, a princess birthday sash with cinch bag, face gem, nail polish, crown accessories and an Elsa wand.  This package did also include the keepsake portrait session.  This consisted of a few finished prints and all photos taken near Cinderella’s carriage which were then uploaded to the Disney app as a free download.  

During the Bippidi Bobbidi Boutique shopping portion of the experience, the kids are to choose their hairstyle from a variety of choices. Most of them were tight buns with slight variation to the accessories that they came with. Accessories are available on display for the kids to choose from like wands and purses.

Once we were done shopping and paying for the transformation, we were told to wait outside for one of Fairy Godmother’s apprentices to come and whisk us away for the makeover.  We were taken to a dressing room to change into their dress and waited for a seat at the salon.  The salon is in a tight space with no room for strollers so please keep that in mind if you will be the only supervising adult and have a sleeping infant/toddler.

Tip: This whole transformation process does take up quite a bit of time with the waiting around, especially if you choose a package with the portrait session. Keep this in mind when planning out dining and the rest of the day’s activities.

The apprentice that was assisting Whitney began working on her hair, while another came to do her makeup and later, another came to put on her nail polish.  My 6 year old quickly transformed into a teenager right before my eyes.  I don’t let her play with makeup or nail polish, so she was totally loving this whole makeover.  Once finished, Whitney, or I should say, Queen Elsa was escorted outside the Sleeping Beauty castle to the Fairy Tale Treasures store where the photoshoot took place.  It was here that we waited the longest for our turn (which also contributed to this lengthy process).

Honestly, this was my least favorite part of the whole experience because of the crowdedness, the wait time, as well as the scenic backdrop and props that the children were posing in front of.  Since the photoshoot was indoors and the props were small, I didn’t think the portraits were that great.  I really wish the photos were outdoors by the Sleeping Beauty castle or even just outdoors in better lighting.

Overall, I would say that the Bippidi Bobbidi Boutique Royal Makeover was a success.  Even with the wait times, Whitney was still smiling ear to ear the whole time and really felt like royalty.  Since these royal transformation packages are a bit pricey (especially on top of the price of a Disneyland ticket), there are certain packages without the princess dresses and portrait session to still provide an extreme amount of value.  

I am glad that we did the Bippidi Bobbidi Boutique Royal Makeover, because of how much joy it brought to my little girl.  I highly recommend it for a surprise, birthday or any type of celebration.  Since she turned 6, who knows when she will grow out of this princess phase.  I’m trying to savor these moments and always remember how happy she was that day.

Things to know before you book the Bippidi Bobbidi Boutique Makeover:

  • Valid ticket and park reservation for the Disneyland Park are required on the same booking day.  This experience is a separate charge from Disneyland Park admission.  
  • For children 3-12 years old. 
  • Guests must arrive with hair combed or brushed through and must have bare fingernails, and must be free of any scalp or skin conditions within the past 30 days. 
  • The salon’s last makeover reservation is at 7:00 PM each day. 
  • This experience may be booked up to 60 days in advance. 
  • Disneyland quotes this experience to take 20 minutes to an hour but for us that day it took roughly 2.5 hours! Please be aware that this magical makeover may take a lot more than 45 minutes so please plan accordingly.
